Fast and Furious

For the fitness warrior, fast and furious - pressing the envelope - that's the modus operandi. Typically, when I power-hike, it's just that -- a powering through at a rate that's almost always A to B in as little time as possible.

But I had two thoughts here.

One, as a 52-year old fitness warrior, there are precautions that I need to take regarding pre-existing back and knee conditions, joint health - wrist, knee and ankle, and the condition of my feet - especially the metatarsals and arches. (Looks like I may need a visit to foot specialist for an x-ray.)

The other thought was activated by my wife and it involves (at least sometimes) taking a slower pace - breathing deeper and more slowly - and enjoying the sights and connection. That IS after all, why I think I enjoy walking and hiking - the movement into and through nature's land and habitat - beach, forest, marsh, mountain. I don't know about you, but some of my best thoughts come when I am moving outside. And there is a sense of connection that periodically, at least, needs a more enduring link - a slower pace - savoring the life force of nature and my connection to it and it to me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But then, of course, I must return to my driven nature of moving through it all - as much of it all - as fast as possible. Accepting and meeting the challenge.  It's kind of like biting down into a mouthful stuffed with grapes. Don't know how else to describe it. Try it - both the grapes and speed-hiking. You'll like!  :)
