10 Hours of Hiking This Week

This has been a record week for total hiking miles - 10 hours and 27 miles, 8 of which were ascent and descent. I've gotta say - I'm tired after today. Tired but glad. I encountered no ticks today, but the deer flies were swarming incredibly. I saw an encounter between an osprey and a great blue heron. Interesting. They just stood there looking at each other. Then the osprey started flapping at the heron and took off. Most peculiar. It flew right past me - got an excellent view.

I did experience some outside left knee pain as well as left foot arch pain that was initially caused from the descent on Monday going down Sharp Top. I'll need to go easy next week. I do need to remember that I am getting older and need to use wisdom. Pushing too hard can exacerbate pre-existing conditions.

  1. Ya think? Actually, this is really a serious issue. Men can easily allow testosterone to override common sense. I'm still dealing with pain in my left foot/ankle. while it is not seriously affecting my urban power walking, it is preventing me from even considering returning to the slopes - especially the downhill.
