With all of this talk about being a fitness warrior, I need to inject a word about wellness and health. Because fitness is a subset of wellness (as is health), it is important to maintain a sense of balance. Self-awareness is key. While visiting my daughter for Christmas in Colorado, I got a bit too "enthusiastic" and probably overdid it. I went for a 3-hour walk in 28-degree weather one evening with a definite cold coming on. While it was fantastic, I was exhausted nonetheless.
The next morning I got up early so I could go with my daughter Mel to work out at her gym. Did a respectable 45-minute strength training workout and, with a few short hours rest, went back out trail hiking for another 2.5 hours. Needless to say, I had pushed my body past its health threshold. That evening, I had chills and fever, and am still recovering 4 days later.

Being a fitness warrior does not mean ignoring your body's signs of health and wellness. It means listening to your body's signs, and resting when needed. It's not all PUSH, PUSH, PUSH. It means being in tune with mind and body.
